ABACUS
Mental Math is an ability to calculate and get a correct answer
without using pencil & paper or any other electronic devices.
Mental Arithmetic (Mental Math) is a method of mental
calculation; performed on a virtual image of abacus, formed in the mind. It is
based on the principles of abacus calculation. In this case, the abacus is
merely a tool, through regular practice of which children are able to visualize
and internalize the image of abacus in their mind.
By using an ABACUS, a child can do all arithmetic calculations
up to 10 digits and master the skill of doing it mentally, without relying on
modern devices such as calculators.
Many people often assume that learning mental arithmetic is
merely a method to improve the speed and accuracy of calculations. For example,
multiplying 7365 x 2395 within a few seconds; by itself, it is already an amazing
accomplishment for most young children. However, there is more to this because
when the children are learning SCHOOLS OF EXCELLENCE Mental Math, they are
actually also undergoing the process of developing other aspects of the mind.
When the children have acquired an astonishing calculation speed, it is
actually only the end result of having developed the following mental
abilities: concentration, observation, visualization & imagination, and
memory.
Mental Arithmetic is a form of calculation that is solely done
by human mind using mental power of performing mathematical calculations
mentally by using visualized abacus. We help in accelerating the brain
development by giving mental arithmetic practice to children of age group 3 – 13.
The mental abilities in children must be developed by the age 17 and will have an
excellent impact until age 70. While a child visualize the questions on the
imaginary Abacus after listening to it, they have to apply logic to do the
proper movement of beads in the mind. This ability also helps the kids to apply logic in various situations and even in real-life scenarios
We have scientifically designed training structure to improve
the child’s mental strengths by training them on mental arithmetic as
everything revolves around mathematics. Implementation of this methodology is
done with the use of Zhusuan or ABACUS, by adopting latest application of the
technology aiming 360 degree brain development. This will help the children in
achieving a sense of understanding towards any subject.
The
course is of 2 years (24 months) duration, which is divided into 8 levels of (3
or Three and Half) months each. During each level the student is made to
comprehend the syllabus, understand the concept, practice, become proficient
and achieve a stage of being able to perform autonomously.
Each
and every level culminates with a level assessment/test - to test the
proficiency of the student for the level – not just knowledge but
understanding. In SCHOOLS OF EXCELLENCE Mental Arithmetic, a student attains
proficiently when he does accurate sums and within a given time frame – Speed
and Accuracy. Each level 14 classes of 2 hours duration each week. The 14
classes get covered in 3 months.
The
student will be exposed to learning and becoming proficient in step by step
learning of basic arithmetic. Single digit limited numbers addition, Single digit
number addition of rows, Double digit limited numbers to Double digit of rows
and so on and so forth. The learning goes on focusing on more complex sums of Addition
and Subtraction; Multiplication and Division.
Each
level enables the child to learn more complicated sums with conceptual
variations. The program culminates with the 8th level which certifies the child
of having attained the stage of completing the program of SCHOOLS OF EXCELLENCE Mental Arithmetic program fully. While 8 levels mean completion of the program,
every level has a definite learning and proficiency objective.
The
focused objective – Visualization and Speed and Accuracy means that the student
has great control over the learned concept and speed is a certifying statement
for the proficiency attained by the student.
The speed attained by the student doing accurate sums takes the
student to the higher realms of CONCENTRATION - a kind of meditative state,
which makes the student to increase brain capabilities, enabling greater
learning and overall efficiency of the brain.
